Gigja Birgisdottir of Gia in Style and I organised a day trip to Maastricht to visit an art museum, do some shopping, and most importantly … have fun! This was the second time Gigja and I organised such a trip together – In 2013 we went with a group to Brussels.
Shopping, art & fun day in Maastricht
Maastricht is such a beautiful city, less than 2 hours drive from Luxembourg and the shopping is amazing. There are many mid-range shops with excellent quality for good price. The sales were on when we were there, so we made plenty of great deals.
We left Luxembourg with a healthy breakfast from Happ (www.happ.lu). Happ has generously sponsored our two trips with delicious fresh juice and snack for all the participants, providing us with plenty of energy before attacking the museum and shops.
We started the day in Maastricht with a guided visit of the Bonnefanten Museum. When visiting a museum for the first time, it is much more interesting to take a guide.
We left the museum inspired and headed to Onze Lieve Vrouweplein, which is one of the most beautiful squares in Holland, for lunch.
After lunch, we hit the shops. We started by being received by the owner of Le Marais on Morenstraat. The store carries many different brands and she explained the collection and concept of the store to us. We spent some time trying on different styles and colours….and, of course, ended up investing in some beautiful stuff.
We then strolled the beautiful streets of old Maastricht center, popped into several different shops, tried and tested clothes and all ended up with some really nice purchases. When you are having fun, time passes very quickly and before we knew, it was time to head home! We left Maastricht with many, many shopping bags and a big smile on our faces after a fantastic day and lots of laughter.
